I’m still working on my entertainment center, so I can’t share that reveal just yet.
Yes, it’s been quite a project.
Over the summer, I was searching for pieces of furniture to add to the spring sale, yeah, I know we’re in fall now.
But time goes by fast, and I have had a hard time finding pieces.
I was trying to think of why I am not finding pieces…and here are my thoughts.
- 1) People are not donating cool vintage pieces.
- 2) The thrift store employees are taking them.
- 3) I am arriving on the wrong days.
Because it’s been slim pickens for me for sometime now.
Recently at a garage sale, I stumbled unto this sweet piece.
Actually it didn’t look like this.
I didn’t take a before photo, I know, I’m sorry.
I guess I should have.
But, close your eyes and imagine this piece unpainted 😉
I love pieces of furniture that have little details.
Those little details come to life with a little paint.
While you are out treasure hunting, look for pieces with details.
Paint can really enhance those little details.
I usually like adding a little worn and chippy patina to my pieces, but this time I decided to use two paint colors, and bring the details out that way.
The base color is Peach Patina, and the highlight color is French Butter.
Both are from my signature paint line through Heirloom Traditions paint, which you can order in the SHOP here.
This is a great color combination!
First I applied two coats of Peach Patina.
Once it was completely dry, I took a small craft brush, and painted the little details on this piece.
It’s super easy to do.
So how do you decide what colors to use together?
I look for colors that compliment each other.
As these two colors do.
And I always use a lighter color to accent the details.
I could have painted this piece one color, but you wouldn’t have seen all the details.
Is it possible to love a paint….because I truly love this paint.
It goes on like butter, and will adhere to practically any surface.
No prep is needed, with the exception for making sure your piece is cleaned well.
Colors can be mixed together….something I will be sharing soon.
And you can add a clear wax, or a clear sealer…or leave it as is.
Yeah, I said it…
I don’t always use a sealer, I do love the look of the paint flat.
Now, if you are concerned about your piece getting marked up, I would seal it.
But, that doesn’t bother me.
I mean, why not let your piece get worn and aged naturally.
That’s what we love about vintage patina.
It’s not just the chippy paint, but it’s the worn paint, the marks, the discoloration…right?
So just go with it, paint your piece and leave it as is.
I love this color as it reminds me of vintage pieces I find when I am treasure hunting.
I recently spotted an amazing shabby vintage piece.
I wish I could share a photo, but the shop I was in asked that no one takes photos.
But WOW it was absolutely amazing.
And this color peach patina reminded me of it.
It has a bit of a pinkish look to it.
That mini chandelier is from Hobby Lobby, I purchased it a few years ago.
This chandelier was added just for photo purposes…but really…if you have a chandelier and you don’t want to hang it.
Why not leave it sitting out on a piece of furniture.
It’s what I call eye candy chandy 😉
So look for those detailed pieces, and experiment with two different colors.
A darker color and a lighter color to highlight all those wonderful details.
