Before I go on I have to share this. When we walked into the home on this particular day there was a bad odor of skunk! I guess a skunk had entered the cellar and fumigated the home. She tried burning a candle but it did not help. So for the first part of the tour it was quite disturbing to smell that odor!
Here are some shots from the of the home.
So much to see but I am only sharing some of the the highlights.
This home is much grander than Grants home. Look at he detail on the outside. And this is quite big on the inside as well.
Let’s go inside.
This glass was specially made for this home and imported. When the sun shines I hear it is stunning to look at. The day we were here was cloudy.
These doors lead you through to the less formal side of the home. The front of the home was formal for party’s and guests and the back was less formal for the children and help to roam about. Kind of reminds me of a mullet haircut. Business in the front party in the back ! Anyway let’s get back to the tour.
A view of the dining room. LOVE those built ins and that fire place too!
This is a shot of the kitchen. It looks very much as it would back in that time although that stove is not old. The owners of this bed and breakfast use this today.
This would have been for staff to cook and eat at. Love that old farm table.
Here is another shot of that beautiful door!
A shot of the parlor. There is so much to see in this home and hard to share with just one photo. But it does give you a glimpse inside.
The rooms are beautiful as well and I did take some photos. But it was a tight shot and was hard to capture. Also not enough time you really take photos as we were on a tour.
Before we left Galena we went back to the historic shopping area. Mr. Cottage and my daughter wanted to take a walk up the stairs to get a better view.
That is a long way up. And you are not even looking at the top of these steps from here. Now I could have walked up it but I am deathly afraid of heights. I thought I could walk up but going down would be another story. I decided to stay at the bottom of the steps…much safer! And Mr. Cottage and my daughter walked up. This is what they saw as they walked up.
See that pink arrow it is pointing at that black spot which is me 🙂 . And they are not all the way up these stairs yet! Now you know why I could not walk up.
Look at the view, but wait let’s climb a little more and see.
You are literally on top of Geneva with this view. So beautiful! LOVE that Church steeple! Thank you Mr. Cottage for taking these photos. If you had not done this I would never have seen this beauty.
Are you like me afraid of heights? Do you miss out on things because of this fear? Or are you fearless?
xx

Oh what beautiful photos – we stayed at a B & B here – don’t remember the name of it but it was very Victorian. Glad you had a nice time!

Thank you, Anne, for more photos of Galena and more about your visit there. I am homesick for the Midwest. Please email me and let me know what town/city you live in as I could not find it on your blog. Nancy Carr nancythedove@aol.com

What a neat inn! I never would have made it up those stairs either…not afraid of heights, just a little out of shape! ;-D The view is great though!

Gorgeous views. I saw some amazing views this summer in the NC mountains, but I did not care to be too close to the edge. Yikes!
