Before I started my blog I was a self DIY-er.
When my daughter was small I remember working on small projects while she was taking her afternoon nap.
One day I decided the piano should be white so I painted it.
And then I thought my kitchen table, chairs and hutch would look amazing…painted….white!
Or how about the time I decided that I should smash all my pretty rose pattern china. and…..
do a mosaic on my kitchen counters!
Wow how unique and cool.
I mean how hard can it be.
I have the china……
Well I got to work smashing china pieces.
Adding them in fun designs on my laminate counter tops.
It was looking amazing.
Really really pretty!
I thought I was so cleaver at the time!
Or so I thought I was!
After I had it all done grout and all I noticed it was not laying flat.
It was a bit rough.
How am I going to keep this clean.
And there are a few sharp pieces……
My husband was very supportive and wonderful as he always is.
He did not say a word.
Really what could he say.
It was done!
The more I thought about it the more I thought “What have I done”???
So as quick as I could I scraped it off.
Luckily it did not dry.
And did not damage my counters either.
This was before the days of blogging.
Wish I had a photo to share.
Or maybe not.
Did I mention how amazing, wonderful and supportive my husband is?!
So you can see I am a risk taker when it comes to decorating.
I don’t follow rules just do what I like.
And if it does not turn out the way like well than I start all over again!
Cool Garden art found recently.
I decided to keep it inside.
Adds a bit of whimsy and charm here don’t you think?
Thank you so much Pamela From my front porch to yours for letting me share how I found my style.

You are my kind of girl! I did an outside table in mosaic and a few days later it all popped off!. I spent hours on that table. What I didn’t know was that you had to have a solid surface and this was one of those mesh tables. Oh well! I get an urge to do something and just do it. And sometimes, there are regrets. But, most of the time, I am thrilled.
Go girl!

Those who do not try and take a risk do not reap the rewards of success! I love all that you do–but the counters do sound a little scary 🙂

I love your style and you are naturally talented. The china counter top sounds like a lot of work. OMG … how many times have I thought something was so inventive and in the end a huge flop. I like “risk taker” type design. When somebody says “that was brave” -I am proud. We are lucky that our hubbies don’t have huge opinions about our decor adventures. Happy Easter!
Anne says
Thank you so much Holly! Oh if I only had photos to share LOL!Hope you had a wonderful Easter!

I think it’s worth taking a risk to experience and create something new. And we all have failures sometimes too, but that’s part of the learning process. Wish you could show us pictures of your counter. I bet it was beautiful.
Anne says
Yes I agree Maggie.I never took photos of it I don’t know why.

I have been doing projects my entire life, since I taught myself to sew when I was 14. At first I was bummed when I had a project not turn out as I wished, but I have learned to accept that it happens. I love the fun of seeing my vision become reality.
I love that green post hanging on your wall. The color is great. I went looking for a pillar yesterday at an antique mall. The one I had seen last summer was still there, but it had gone from $90 (would have bought it but we were in my husband’s sports car) to $190. I am so sorry I didn’t buy it then.
Anne says
YIKES Carol that is expensive.Mine was….15.00!!! And I find posts for 25.00 usually sometimes cheaper.I guess it depends on the area you live in.Can you tell I am a thrifty chic!
