I bet this dairy farm sign looks familiar.I painted this for the vintage market a few months back.It did not sell so I brought it home.It was meant to come back home with me because I now have the perfect spot for it.
This is a hard shot to do because this sign is up high.
I added this to my laundry room above my washer and dryer.
I have a front load set that is also on pedestals.
That is one of the reasons I don’t have cabinets above the washer and dryer.I would never be able to reach anything above.
Adding a shelf was not an option either. If you have a front loader washer you know how much this shakes around.Adding a shelf and pretty things that could fall and break is also not an option.
But I needed something to fill in the void on this wall.
And still after I added that sign it needed something else.
I have to be honest I have no idea what this is but I thought it was cool and had the perfect rusty patina on it.
It looks like it may be a galvanized gutter?
Now how to I add this piece to my wall and what to put into it.
Well at first I thought I had to drill holes to hang this.
Hmmm tried doing that and failed.I guess I don’t have the right bit.
Okay on to plan B.How about using a nail to start the hole and then adding a screw anchor….hmmm could work lets try.
I placed this metal piece on a piece of wood.Okay I will be honest I placed it on the wood step of our garage…yep I did.I then hammered a nail to this gutter and it worked!
Now I had a hole started so I could add my screw anchors.
And I am as long as I am confessing I did not use a level.I usually don’t and just eyeball where I want something.
I hung this right under my sign and I think it looks perfect.
Because this is being hung over a washer that shakes allot I did not want to add anything fragile so my dried flowers are perfect!
I am sure I will come across something else eventually that I could also add to this that is not fragile.
Oh I know maybe some vintage photos large enough that you can see them!
Don’t you just love that rusty patina!
Still have to hang those lights and I have one more thing to add and I will reveal this room.

Looks great, Anne, but you crack me up – I have a sister who ‘eyballs’ things and hammers away, just like you. First time I tried that, I drilled into something hard on the other side of the wall – an electrical box – yikes! It’s a wonder I didn’t get electrocuted! Needless to say, I am a little hammer- & drill-shy.
Have a great day!

Your metal piece looks great paired with the sign…..I love it filled with the dried hydrangeas too! I just bought a long wire basket and was wondering what I might put in it…..I’m thinking hydrangeas would look great?!?!? Thanks for the idea! Have a great week :o)

Yes, the rusty patina is wonderful and the dried flowers are so pretty.
I have seen some similar things at my favorite antique store, but I don’t really have a place for any of them.

Your sign was meant to hang in your laundry room! We’ve got plaster walls, so I’ve got to start holes with a masonry bit. So, I try to get it right the first time!
Maybe your galvanized piece is for water for chickens. That was my first thought. You could always fill it with vintage clothespins and an old laundry soap box if you come across any.

They look like they’ve always belonged together! Your metal “thing” looks like it may be a poultry feeder that attaches to the side of the coop.

Anne, how sweet that looks. I remember the sign and can’t believe no one bought it at the sale, but lucky for you! I think you are right about that being a piece of gutter but just perfect for your spot and looks pretty with the softness of the flowers. Can’t wait to see your final room..Happy Weekend..Judy

I love your sign, Anne. I think that galvanized piece is a chicken feeder. It looks like one we had on the farm when I was a kid. I can remember my mother ducking the babies heads down into it so they would learn to eat mash. Perfect for that spot! xo Diana
