When I started blogging I never knew how many new friends I would make and how many fun opportunities would come my way.
My good Friend Janet from Lucky Junk recently asked me if I would be interested in teaching some painting workshops with the line she is carrying Vintage Market Design Furniture Paint.
Of course I jumped at the chance!
How fun to help her teach painting workshops and work with a new to me line of paint.
Vintage Market paint is a chalk based paint.
They have quite a selection of colors which I really like and the packaging is a little different.
Instead of cans they come in see through containers so you can actually see the colors.
The have four different sizes to choose from and the largest size 32 ounces is 28.95 a little cheaper than other chalk based paints on the market.
They also have a huge selection of waxes,I cannot wait to try those as well.

I was given a sample of paint and wax to try,the paint I used for this frame is called Porcelain.
It’s a soft light pink.
I found this pretty print in a very ugly frame.
I knew I could not distress this because under the distressed paint I would see this frame peeking through, not really pretty.
So instead I decided to paint two coats of Porcelain.
After the paint was dry I added dark umber wax.
This wax is very different from the dark waxes I have used.
I love this wax!
It was so easy to apply and easy to work with.
You do not need to add clear wax first before applying the dark wax.
But because I wanted to see a little more of the pink color and not a just the dark wax I decided to add the clear wax on top of the dark wax.
I did not wait until the dark wax was dry,I just added it on top.
On this frame I applied both waxes with a rag because the frame is so small.
You can see the dark wax and still see the pink color.
Can you see that crackle showing through?
Not sure why that happened but I really love how that bit of crackle makes this frame look authentically old!
This paint turned this crappy frame into something that looks authentically vintage.
I cannot wait to try more colors in this paint line, they have quite a selection for those that are not comfortable with mixing paint colors.
I would describe the dark umber wax as a glaze.
In fact I am going to repaint my kitchen island with this line and use this wax on top!

That is really pretty and I like that there is a darker wax that doesn’t have to have the clear wax on first. There seems to be so many new chalk based paints coming out. I have seen a different line at the antique mall I shop.

Hi I tried the paint and loved it but I had problems with the dark umber wax. It was oily and I waited 24 hours and it still wiped all the dark Colorado off. Have youbhad this problem? Thanks lynn
Anne says
This happened to me the first time too.And the reason I was told is because I did not mix it well. You have to take a wood painter stick and really mix this well. When they process it the color is separated from the wax.Make sure to really, mix it well and it should not be a problem 🙂

This is my first time using chalk paint of any kind. I’m tackling a large honey color oak desk and top unit that is 15 years old. I applied 2 coats of Sand and then the clear wax. After applying a coat of the sealer, it appears uneven. Do you have any suggestions. The instruction do call for sanding with a fine grit. We attempted that before the wax but the paint was coming off. We have allowed ample time (24 hours) between coats. It does suggest a sand and then a second coat. It is a large piece with large solid surfaces. Any suggestions?
Anne says
It’s hard to say without seeing it in person Kathy. You may have applied too much wax?
