The last couple of days have been a whirlwind! When a girlfriend asks you if you want to go out junking with her,and how would you like to come with you don’t say no.
I have heard about the spring clean up in Winnetka but have never ventured out.
After teaching a painting workshop at Lucky Junk, one of the sweet attendees told Janet and I about the curbside spring clean up.
She had shared that she found a beautiful Ethan Allen table at the curbside.
Yes they were throwing it out!
Being a newbie to this,I have much to learn.
Like knowing about this on the first day and not the third day.
Yes most of it was picked over but not all of it.
As you can see our vehicles were packed and loaded with treasures.
This is Janet’s car.
This is my car.
Most of the treasures went to Janet’s shop, but I did find a few pieces to bring home.
But so much was left behind, like a beautiful mantle surround,a vintage screen door,a gorgeous vintage dining table,a French chair.
Yes we saw the garbage collectors picking that awesome French chair and putting it in the truck,it seriously broke our hearts but we had no room left inside our vehicles.
A few pieces of chippy broken garden urns came home with me.
I don’t know why but I could not turn them away even in that condition.
I think these will come inside my home somewhere.
I also found a large pottery barn rug,it’s some sort of natural fiber.
It is going on my porch, since I can’t paint the floors until the fall it looks better than the plain unstained or painted floor.
The rug has a few light stains on it but I am thinking of painting it,what a surprise 😉
This rug will be a temporary fix until I can paint the floors, since it’s free it’s no big deal.
I also found a piece of beadboard paneling.
That will be great as a back drop for photos,it’s yellow so I will have to paint that too eventually.
I also came across these two pillows with this sweet faded fabric and flowers.
I am adding the pillows in my porch on two of my chairs.
Again being free if I don’t want them any longer I can donate these.
The broken pieces of statue are in a worn window box,I am going to….yep you got it…paint that too!
And my favorite find was this sweet gem.
I spotted this beaming door knob as I drove by.
This door knob brings back fond memories of my Grandmother, she had these on every door of her house!
And the door has an amazing chippy patina which you know how much I adore.
Wow I am exhausted from all that treasure hunting.
I went back today with another friend but no luck, most was gone good to remember this for next year.
I guess this is pretty common in some areas around here.
They hold these clean up days for those wanting to get rid of items they no longer want.
Now I need to do a little searching to see what other towns do this.
Do you have a collection like this in your area?
You should find out this was so much fun,and it is all free!
You should see what my friend Janet found,it’s hard to see in the photos …but wow what beautiful chippy vintage treasures!
Tomorrow is cleaning day and I will be starting on a few of my painting projects.
If you are local we would love to have you join us in one of our Vintage Market And Designs Workshops.

Where we are now we have these collections every quarter. I don’t know if where we are going does. I love old glass door knobs. My great-aunt had them in her apartment building.
