I love vintage picnic baskets, and I also love using them.
They are useful for so many things, and they are also very pretty stacked up on top of each other.
But I must admit I love using these vintage picnic baskets as they were meant to be used.
Not necessarily for a picnic,I love the outdoors but I am not an outdoorsy kind of gal.
If you know me you know I would never in a million years want to camp, not even glamping.
But we do take day trips in the summer and we always bring along snacks and things for the road.
I love pulling my baskets out for these trips, there is something about using a vintage picnic basket that makes our adventure more exciting!
We still bring a cooler to keep refrigerated items cold, but this basket stores our snacks, plates, utensils and napkins.
Yes I could use one of those reusable bags, but this is so much prettier don’t you think?
This also keeps things from getting squashed, unlike a bag.
As some of you know I love using real napkins, even if we are off on a day trip.
And those plates are real too, they are the perfect size for snacks and sandwiches.
I bet you are shocked to see napkins without rose’s or flowers on them.
This petite table cloth is only used for my picnic basket,it’s quite small.
Too small for a table, but would work great if you were to use it on the ground for a picnic in the park.
And yes I also like using real folks, but on occasion I use plastic forks.
I love using real plates, napkins and utensils because it makes the occasion of eating special.
After I lay everything out I start to pack my basket and of course the heavy things go on the bottom.
But first I add this vintage table cloth to my basket as a liner.
Normally I would add these waters to my cooler, but since I am just sharing how I pack and I don’t have many things to add since we are pretending I will show you how I would pack these items.
Yes being glass these will get wrapped up in my napkins.
And I do the same with my forks these will get wrapped up in a napkin.
Next my dishes will get packed into the picnic basket, first wrapping these in a napkin or a pretty vintage hand towel.
This French one is one of my favorite ones!
Then I add my snacks including my peaches, the grapes will go into the cooler.
Think about pulling your picnic basket and using it.
And if you don’t already have one you can easily find one at a garage sale, thrift shop or antique store.

Anne, this is such a beautiful picnic. I just bought a basket at Goodwill. You have definitely given me the bug to pack a French style picnic and head to some vineyards this weekend. I have so enjoyed looking at your blog. It has inspired me to start blogging again.
Thanks for sharing, your special art of displaying things.

You’ve certainly thought of everything for a nice picnic! I used to have a Longerberger picnic basket, but ended up getting rid of it years ago. I just never used it. It would be fun to go on a picnic though. We tend to just use a cooler. I didn’t know you didn’t like camping. Guess it’s a good thing you didn’t have boys! LOL!

My husband does not like camping either Kelly….thank goodness 🙂
