Ah the romance of fall, the cool crisp air,the smell of burning leaves and fire places.
The sound of crunching leaves on the ground.
Natures colors turn golden.
It’s time to pull out our sweaters, and boots.
And let’s not forget about those soft warm blankets and snuggling by the fire.
**This shot was from last winter.**
Doesn’t fall sound amazing!
I mean who wouldn’t want to live somewhere that was so beautiful this time of the year.
Drinking a cup of hot apple cider, visiting the apple orchards.
Taking a hay ride.
Living in a small town I see many old houses, like this bed and breakfast.
And this old building with it’s chippy paint.
Some would look at this as if it were a dump, but I see the beautify the lies beneath.
Yes fall is all around us….but I have to admit.
I am not fond of fall, because shortly after fall it starts to feel like winter, yuck I don’t even like that word!
And winter is not official until December 21st,but believe me when I tell you winter starts in October, usually close to Halloween.
I know many of you live in a warm climate and think oh you are so lucky that it’s cool because it’s fall.
I can say this because I have lived in a warm climate (southern California) as a child.
And I prefer a warmer climate.
The older I get the more I miss that warm weather.
Summers are short here and the winters are long and cold, and they feel like they will never end!
I spend most of my days during those cold winter months drinking cups of coffee to keep warm.
And I am usually layered up with a shirt,sweater,a scarf,thick socks,and slippers.
Yes this is what I wear around my home during the winter months because we are freezing our butts off!
That warm cozy fireplace is not on because of the ambiance, but because we are so flippin cold when we are in our family room,it helps sitting close to the fire to stay warm.
And when I am sitting by the fire I close my eyes and the warmth of the fireplace sits on my skin and I go back to a warm summer day in my head.
Seriously
During the summer months when I am enjoying a special moment outside on a lovely day I close my eyes and think I need to remember this on a cold winters day.
And often I repeat this phrase “We need to enjoy this moment because during the winter we are going to wish we were this hot! And that it was this beautiful!”
Honestly it’s the only way I can get through those long winter days.
And speaking of the sun,it is rarely seen around here during the winter months.
So I am often buying fresh flowers.
Now you know why I love fresh flowers so much, and I appreciate them so much more during those cold winter months.
So while some of you are enjoying photos of the beauty and romance of fall.
I am bracing myself for the winter that is drawing near.
And I pray that it will not be as brutal as last year.

Fall is not my favorite season either, but we don’t have the brutal winter you do. I just can’t stand all the bare trees and everything is gray. I love spring and the new life it brings. Fall is when everything dies, but it has to die to start new again in spring. I sure hope you have a milder winter this year than last.
Anne says
Yes that is another thing I don’t like Kim is the bare trees!

Amen Anne. I am so enjoying this nice weather we are having of late. Just do not want to see it go away. Hopefully we might have a nice fall before Old Man Winter blows into town for us. Ughhhhh to think of those long months ahead of winter. I am with you the older I get the more I want to go where it is warmer. Have a great start to the new week.

I love Fall. But, then again I live in GA with mild winters. We have warm weather 3/4 of the year. It doesn’t start getting real cold here until December. Last year we had a pretty cold winter and even got some snow. We never know what kind of winter we’re going to have here. Do you live in Illinois? No wonder you have such bad winters! Hopefully, mother nature will be kinder to you.
Anne says
Kelly…. that’s it I am moving to Georgia!

Hi Anne, I look forward to winter just like I look forward to all the seasons changing. BUT, once it gets here and there is a little bit of rain, then I want it to snow, then when there is a little bit snow, I want spring to begin, etc., etc. I love sitting by the fire but that only lasts so long too. But fall is the best change after a too hot summer. I wish it would last longer. Spring and fall are the best two but neither one lasts long enough..Happy Week to you..Judy

We never get what we want do we Judy LOL.I would love a longer summer…sigh.

We’ve lived in different climates every place we’ve lived so I just enjoy what it is at that time. Western KY (Bowling Green area) has gorgeous Falls and less humidity, amen. Humidity was hard for me to live in, summers there were 100% humidity and 100 degrees, even the locals were complaining. Had to be sure to get my laundry down in mid afternoon as humidity would come in later on, get laundry all wet again. But Falls were so pretty, nice breezes and temps. Loved it there then. Except my allergies were awful, every season they were awful there and I had bad arthritis and asthma all the time.
So after 5 yrs. we moved back West again to CO, west of Grand Junction, quite dry here also, finally got some Fall weather yesterday, about 70 and raining. After being almost or at 90 degrees every day that 70 felt pretty nippy yesterday. Today is rainy again and cooler. Will have a few cooler days then get warmer again, Mother nature likes to play games on us here.
We lived in MT before KY which was very dry also, beautiful Fall weather, the trees down by lake were gorgeous in Fall. Our first winter there we had 25 below during day and lots of snow from early Nov. on. Before MT we lived in San Diego areas for 21 yrs. Fall is usually pretty hot there. Before San Diego we lived in Tucson, AZ, not much for Fall weather, have to go up to mountains, Mt. Lemon, to get Fall weather.
Now you see why we just adjust to whatever the season chooses to give us. I happen to love the snow and getting all bundled up. Not usual for an older person but I do anyway. I was the one that always called people when we lived in San Diego area to go up to Julian to play in snow. It’s a fairly quick trip up there, loved going in apple season also. Enjoy your Fall while you can. Happy week Anne

LOL….I am trying to embrace it…I really am JaneEllen. But on a cold winter day I will take a 90 degree day with 100% humidity 😉
