Recently, when I shared my new signature line of paints, I also shared my new colors on old bottles.
I have seen so many beautifully painted mason jars.
Just go on pinterest and see all of the fun ideas for mason jars.
But you don’t have to use a mason jar, you can use any jar or vase.
I see many interesting bottles and vases while I am out thrift shopping.
And I bet you have some jars and vases in your home too, that can use a little update.
Painting glass bottles with chalk type paint is really very simple.
After making sure my bottle was clean I just painted my bottles, that’s it.
I know, not much to say about this.
I bet some of you thought it was a little more complicated than that, but it’s not at all.
Don’t worry about brush marks, I personally love the texture you get from brush strokes.
But if it really bothers you, then add a little water to your paint first.
Make sure to add your paint and water mixture in a separate container.
I have heard paint can go bad it you don’t.
One of Heirloom Traditions new products is called Metallic Masters Precious Pearl, top coat.
You can indeed use this top coat on top of wax too!
After painting my bottles I thought they needed something, but instead of wax I decided to apply this right on top of my paint.
On my bottle that I painted using French Butter, I decided to decopauge lace on the bottom half of the bottle.
I always search for lace when I am thrift shopping.
It comes in handy for gift wrapping and craft projects.
After cutting a piece of lace for the bottom half of my bottle, I applied Mod Podge on the bottle, added the lace.
Next I added another coat of Mod Podge on top of the lace.
After it was fully dry, I took out my precious pearl and stirred it up really well, using a wood paint stick.
Then using a disposable brush, I applied precious pearl metallic top coat over the whole bottle.
Let me tell you, that you will need a very little amount of this on any piece that you use.
This is watery, so less is always better.
When you are applying use nice long stokes in the same direction.
I only added one coat to my piece but you can add two or three coats.
But make sure to let each coat fully dry before adding the next coat.
If you decided to add this over a piece that has wax, make sure your wax is fully cured (48-72 hours) before applying.
Here is a close up of my vintage bottle.
I love that bit of iridescence this pearl top coat adds to a piece.
I really loved the result so much I decided to also add it to my Posh Pink bottle.
I know it’s hard to really see it in photos.
No worries, I will be sharing this wonderful product again on another project so you can see it.
But it’s a soft iridescent color.
This is a very easy project, and would be a fun Mother’s day gift 🙂

These painted bottles with the lace added are exquisite! I want 3 of the right now!! I can’t wait to try your chalk paint, it looks so easy to use and the colors are so pretty. If I chose not to add the lace w/ the mod podge, would you recommend waxing them? Thanks for sharing such a beautiful and creative project!

Thanks so much Judy! I would suggest adding a brush on finish like Heirloom Traditions Aqua clear. There are 3 finishes,Satin,Matte and gloss. And a little goes a long way. I will be adding these to the shop soon!

Hi Anne, LOVE IT! All of it from the delicious creaminess of the French Butter paint, the lace and the finish. I hope I can find something similar to the pearl finish in Canada. I just brought home a box of jars from the thrift store and some lace trim. I know what I will be working on tomorrow 😉 Thanks again for all the inspiration! I have been looking at things in the thrift store with a new eye now and bringing home treasures I would not have looked at before thanks to your delightful blog.
Have a great week.
