This past weekend I shared that I attended a vintage barn sale with my daughter.
And that I ran into a few of my friends.
One of those friends was Kris from Junk Chic Cottage.
After running into her, she sent me text with a few photos asking if I was interested in a few pieces.
If it’s chippy and old…well of course 😉
After talking for a bit she handed me this pretty pink metal box with hand painted roses.
She no longer wanted it and thought I could use it for my spring sale.
Because it’s a cash box.
Probably the prettiest cash box I have ever seen!
Since I don’t need a cash box right now, I thought it would be fun to use this for my makeup.
I added a little vintage wallpaper to the inside of this box.
Then I added my makeup inside.
I don’t have as much makeup as I used too.
As teen I had lots of fun experimenting with makeup.
But these days, I wear very little.
I am blessed with really good skin, and even at my age, I don’t have many signs of wrinkles.
And I also have always taken very good care of my skin, even as a teen.
I take my makeup off every night before I go to bed.
I’ll tell you a secret, most of my makeup brushes I have had since I was a teen…and that was many years ago.
But, I take very good care of them.
Do you know how to wash a makeup brush?
Let me share how I take care of mine.
I use my face cleanser, I have been doing that for years.
First I wet my brush under the faucet, then I add a drop of my face cleanser, if you don’t have a face cleanser you can use a face soap.
Then I work it into my brush and rinse.
I repeat this process until my brush is clean.
Then I lay it on a towel to dry.
I clean my brushes once a month.
So…… back to this pretty box.
This tray works out perfectly for my brushes and some of my other makeup.
Isn’t this pretty!
This cute box would be great for Jewelry as well.
Store bigger pieces of jewelry on the bottom and smaller pieces of jewelry on the top.
So, if you find one of these cash boxes while thrift shopping, or you could buy a new one too, think about using this for makeup, jewelry box or as an organizer for your desk.
Perfect for paper clips, pens, small note pads and things.
Okay so after I decided to use this as a makeup case.
And when I started to think about what else I could use it for…it led me to think about jewelry boxes.
I often see jewelry boxes at the thrift stores.
If you find one grab it.
Don’t worry about the color, you can paint it 🙂
Here’s one I found a year ago.
I love the color don’t you.
So, what about using one for make-up?
Or again, you could use this for storing desk supplies, or for small craft supplies.
And you can use this as a cash box for a sale.
If it’s gross inside, paint it.
I know that’s my answer for almost everything, paint it 😉
But, paint can do wonders, especially the paint line I work with Heirloom traditions.
Don’t pass these up next time you see them!

That’s a lovely box Anne & looks great on your dressing table. I have a box bought by my mother in law who has passed so I don’t want to throw it out. It’s a burgundy fake leather so not the best of colours. Wonder if I could paint it? Never thought of putting make up in it though. I’ve had it in bubble wrap the past year since I moved. Today is the day I will do something with it!
