I am not mixed media expert, in fact this is my first mixed media project.
But I thought it would be fun to try, and this would make a wonderful gift for someone.
This project is super easy!
Supplies needed:
- Wood plank- Hobby Lobby
- Heirloom Traditions Aurora Staining Gel- Pearl Jam, Cherry Bomb, Lucky Charms, Goldilocks
- Tacky Glue
- Scrapbook paper
- Stamps or stencil
- Clear varnish spray
I purchased a wood board from Hobby Lobby, I used my 40% off coupon and I think it was $8.00.
First apply your Aurora stain to your plank.
I just added mine to the board in a zigzag motion.
After applying the gels to my plank board, using a paint brush in a sweeping motion, I work the gel into my board.
I didn’t over work the gels.
I wanted to blend the colors, but not completely.
This gel is so easy and fun to work with!
Make sure to blend the gels onto the side of your board.
Let this sit and dry.
Once your board is dry it’s time to start adding your art.
Doesn’t this board look like a painting already!
I decided to add a Christmas tree to my piece.
These colors will work perfectly with my wood plank.
I folded this scrapbook paper in half, then drew a tree on the folded edge.
Oh I forgot to mention, this paper was also found at Hobby Lobby.
This will create a perfect tree on both sides.
Once this was cut, I decided to add another layer to my tree.
I did the same thing with my next tree, but on a smaller scale.
Before gluing I decided to make sure that this was going to be a perfect fit, and it was.
Then I applied tacky glue to the smaller tree and added that to my board.
After I applied this small tree, I added glue to the larger tree and added that on top.
I wanted to keep my project simple, but you can do so much more than what I am sharing.
Next, I pulled out my stamps and added Merry and Bright.
If you don’t have stamps you can cut out letters from a magazine or use card stock.
Then to finish it off, I sprayed my piece with clear varnish and sprinkled a little glitter on top of my tree.
Some of the glitter fell onto the sides, and that’s okay.
If you don’t want to use spray varnish, you can brush a decoupage gel glue on top of your tree, and then sprinkle the glitter.
And that’s it!
This is a beautiful piece of art that would make a wonderful gift for anyone.
Use your imagination as to how you would like to create yours.
This is a fun project that you could do with your kids or grandchildren too!
