Have you ever mumbled the words ” I will never”, “No, not ever”.
Yeah, me too!
I’ve said those words so many times, with true meaning too.
At the time I said those words, I felt passionate about those words.
Like the time I said I would never paint my media cabinet.
And…..I finally did.
You can read about that easy furniture makeover HERE.
Or the time I said, that I would never paint my china cabinet…..
And I finally did!
In fact, I’ve painted that piece several times, you can see how it looks now HERE.
But, in the beginning stages of blogging, I shared this cabinet.
I’ve had this cabinet for many years.
I fell head over heels in love with this cabinet.
The curvy glass, the sexy legs, the detail…..sigh.
When I spotted this cabinet many years ago, I envisioned it in my home.
With all of my pretty china displayed.
Oh, and it had a light!
That light would be a spotlight shining on my beautiful china.
And I could sit, and admire all my pretty dishes in that cabinet.
Yes, all of those thoughts came within seconds of seeing this cabinet.
I reached in my pocked to see if I had the money for this piece.
Nope, but I had my checkbook.
It was a little out of our budget, so before purchasing it, I drove home as quickly as I could to ask my husband if I could purchase it.
I don’t always ask my husband before purchasing something.
But, this was a big piece for us at the time, and I needed to make sure it was within our budget.
Remember, 17 years ago, there was no texting, or not that I can remember, so I drove home as quick as I could.
Thank goodness we lived close to this shop.
As soon as I got home, I ran into our house, out of breath I asked my husband.
Honey, I just saw the most beautiful china cabinet that I know will look perfect in that corner.
I proceeded to share how beautiful it was, and how my china collection would look perfect in this china cabinet.
And it wasn’t just any china cabinet, this was special.
Well, before I could finish my last sentence, he said…..yes!
So, you know what I did next right?
I ran out of our house as fast as I could to get that beautiful china cabinet.
I was so worried someone would purchase it before I could.
I parked the car, ran into the store, up the stairs, and…..it was still there!
After I purchased it, I brought it home, put it in that corner, and added my beautiful china.
And yes, I sat and admired my beautiful dishes with the spotlight on each one.
For years I’ve said I would never paint it, ever!
Well, today is the day I painted that piece.
I’ve enjoyed the wood for 17 years.
I’m planning on selling this beautiful piece, that I swore I would never part with.
And if I want to sell it, then it needed a fresh coat of paint.
As beautiful as the wood was, unpainted furniture does not sell around here.
Unless I wanted to give it away.
And when I say give it away, I mean I wouldn’t make anything under $50.00 for this piece.
This piece still makes my heart skip a beat, and I’ll enjoy the beauty of it all painted.
Until it goes to a new home.
I mixed French Butter, and White Lace and came up with this lovely soft color.
You can purchase those paints HERE.
Both from my signature paint line through Heirloom Traditions paint.
For fun, I’ve added vintage wallpaper inside.
I just used ModPodge to the back wall of the cabinet, then placed the wall paper onto the cabinet.
It’s much softer and perfect for this room!

I’ve said the same thing. It’s so cute painted. Are you sure you want to sell it? It’s perfect in your home.

Sigh, I guess we have all said it before….. I have my grandmother’s hutch, and when it was gifted to me I told myself the same thing. No painting. Well this year, it may very well get painted. We have to live with them and luv them in our space. I say, paint away .

Looks great – and I def have said that many times over.
There’s a huge stunning armoire in my master bedroom I’d love to paint and my daughters flat out forbid me – the wood is so perfect and such a high quality that – and they are right- they said to sell it and get a paintable one if I can’t shake the need to paint it.
Other things not so much, paint paint paint! I have several projects in the basement waiting for the energy to do just that.
Sorry you are letting that piece go – it’s really an awesome cabinet, Anne.

Can’t you use your hutch for the kitchen or bathroom maybe, would be really pretty in bathroom or your bedroom. Maybe put fabric over the glass to cover any messies in it. lOve the wallpaper on back and your pitchers on top .Let us know when/if you really sell it.
Our daughter gave me a really cute little 3 drawer dresser few years ago. Her hubs had worked diligently sanding off paint. He thinks painting wood is a sin. When she gave it to me I painted it. Time to redo it, tired of what I did before. Need different colors, ideas on it. Psssst. don’t tell her hubs ok? Happy weekend

This looks so beautiful….its an easy technique to give a new look to an old furniture. I have also made some changes to my old furniture.
The exterior of the dresser was given 2 coats of Aubusson and then clear waxed to give me a good base to add Martha Stewart Metallic Glaze in Coffee (sadly now no longer available), to all the nooks and crannies, pushing it into the paint with a brush (I used small artists brushes to layer into the details) and wiping off the excess with fine steel wool. It darkened the Aubusson whilst giving it a beautiful sheen.
