How To Add Patina Using Wax
If I told you that adding a soft wax to a piece of furniture or a cement statue like this one will instantly add an aged patina how would that make you feel? I’m thinking happy, because it’s super duper easy to do.

Several months ago I found an old garden statue at a thrift store. The patina wasn’t anything special, and yes this is an old piece. It’s marked 1970 on the bottom. I couldn’t wait to break out my oxidized patina and give it a try on this piece. This is seriously so easy to do it’s silly. Like really, really easy.
You can watch the video tutorial below and see just how easy this is to use!
Here’s what the statue looks like now.
Doesn’t this look like oxidized copper? It’s not metal at all, but a very heavy concrete statue!
Since I’ll be adding this to my garden outside, I’ll be adding a few coats of aqua clear on this as well.
Here’ s a close up of the new wax brushes from Heirloom Traditions paint. This is one project that you will want to use a wax brush for. The wax brush makes it easy to get into all the little nooks and crannies of a piece.
Using this brush and working the wax in, really brings out the details doesn’t it! And that color is just so beautiful! Honestly, it’s hard to tell whether this is cement or metal! Either way this is one heavy statue! This wax can be used on a painted piece, or an old piece of wood with lots of patina. You don’t have to seal this, but I am adding a coat of aqua clear because it’s going outside in my garden.
