WHY DOES MY MAKEUP NOT LOOK LIKE A BEAUTY GURU’S?
This is a question many ask themselves. Why does my makeup not look like a beauty guru’s? There are many reasons that you may feel this way. I’m going to share some truth with you all on why your makeup doesn’t look like a YouTube beauty guru. I do have a makeup channel but I don’t consider myself to be a guru. I’ve loved makeup since I can remember. I also worked as a professional hairstylist and learned makeup tips from professional makeup artists in seminars. So why doesn’t your makeup look like a beauty guru’s? Let’s talk about it. If you’d like to see me reacting to a celebrity makeup artists tips you can watch that HERE. I also shared a video and article talking about why your makeup will never look like a guru. You can read that Here.
STAGE MAKEUP
Many beauty channels wear stage makeup. They apply layers and layers of makeup. They will even show you how to apply contour and highlighter. They never explain why they’re doing it. But they’ll show you how to make your nose look smaller or your cheeks more defined. And they’ll even share how to shade and contour your sagging chin to give yourself a fake plastic surgery. But in reality all that makeup in everyday life is way too much unless you want to look like you’ve been made up for your casket.
The more makeup you apply the more it looks like you’re wearing makeup. It’s okay to wear makeup heavier if you’re going to be on stage or under lights because lighting can wash us out. But if you have a sagging chin or a large nose, no makeup in the world will conceal it and it will only make it more obvious that you are trying to hide it if you’re sporting all of that contour in daylight.
It’s why I never wear contour. I do lightly highlight just above my cheeks but that’s it. I always want to look like myself without layers of makeup. And on my 54 year old face the less the better.
LIGHTING
Lighting can filter a face and make a face look perfect. It’s why I always zoom my camera way in when I share tutorials. I never want anyone to think I have a perfect flawless face because I don’t. No one does and if you think they do it’s all smoke and mirrors. If someone were to meet me in person I want them to see how I really look everyday.
I do need lighting because I’d have shadows on my face if I didn’t. But I never use filters on my camera or when I’m editing. It’s another trick that some beauty guru’s will use. I feel that’s dishonest and isn’t helpful to anyone. It just makes people feel like crap about themselves.
LASTING MAKEUP
If someone piles on layers of makeup I don’t care how much powder or setting spray you wear eventually you’ll have to touch it up. It’s another reason why I don’t wear layers of makeup. Once my makeup is on I don’t touch my face. The only thing I will touch up is my lips because that does wear off throughout the day. Especially after drinking or eating.
PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST
I just collaborated with celebrity makeup artist Mathias from Mathias4Makeup. He has a beauty youtube channel. We thought it would be fun to share a reaction video. In my video you’ll see me apply my makeup along with him and I’m sharing my thoughts and experience. He is going through one of my videos sharing tips and advice. You can watch THIS VIDEO. In my description of my video you’ll see a link to his channel as well.
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER
No one has perfect flawless skin. Makeup can enhance our beauty but to try to achieve perfection isn’t realistic. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you see on a channel or Instagram. People use filters and they alter their face to look perfect. I don’t agree with this and I feel it’s wrong to make people they that level of perfection exists when it doesn’t. Just embrace who you are because YOU are beautiful!
