Wow, sometimes looking back isn’t a good thing.
I mean, sometimes you look back at photos of yourself and you think, what was I thinking?
Why did I wear that outfit, or what was up with my hairstyle.
Well, you can say all that about decorating.
And when you write a blog, you are putting your ideas, and thoughts out there for everyone to see.
Good, or bad, it’s what you like, and how you feel.
I’ve been sharing some of the changes I’ve made in my home.
I shared my living room you can see that HERE.
And my kitchen HERE.
And right now I am working on my family room.
So let’s take a look at a room that’s had quite a few changes.
Most of them have been small changes.
But… I don’t even know what to say.
Well, here’s my bedroom just four years ago.
What in the world was I thinking?
I must have been feeling very sad because I have lots of black.
Black curtains, black bedding, black furniture, lots of black.
And where’s my vintage style…where did that go?
Well, when we moved into our home, I thought I should change my style.
But why?
I don’t know, really, I don’t.
So I started my blog, and soon started painting my walls and furniture.
And so this is what my room looked like next.
A huge improvement, but blah.
I do love my french bedding and my bench, and my painted bed…but that’s about it!
I know these photos are pretty bad too.
See, my photos have come a long way since the beginning of my blog too.
So I changed the curtains several times, and a few pieces of furniture have come and gone in my bedroom.
Too much, just too much stuff!
So I pared it down, like way down.
I am all about simplicity these days.
I feel like my style is maturing, as I am.
This was a year ago, you can see some of the furniture changes.
And finally a much cleaner, simpler look and I love it so much!
I always felt like I needed stuff.
Stuff on my walls, stuff placed on my furniture, stuff everywhere.
Keeping my walls pretty much bare, I added a stencil to my back wall that sort of looks like wallpaper.
But it adds a dimension to my wall, and a touch of color.
These days, I am only decorating with key pieces.
Like my lamp, some books and my decorative jewelry holder, on the bed side tables.
My dressing table is as it always is, except I don’t always have fresh flowers sitting on this table.
But I love that sweet mirror I found several years ago.
It’s much different that in was in the beginning.
Our room has evolved for sure.
But I really want my furniture pieces to be the focus of our room.
Not stuff.
I am working on my family room and my living room.
Purging, and keeping only a few pieces.
It’s so much easier on the eye, and you can see the room for what it is.
Not a cluttered mess.
I plan on carrying this look onto our next home.
I have plans on moving into a much smaller home, with less stuff.
And more time to travel.
I’m feeling the need to spread my wings, and start seeing the world.
Too much stuff ties you down.
Well, at least that’s how I feel.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed with too much stuff?

You’re so right about too much stuff. It does tie you down. I love the stencil that you did on the wall behind your bed. Beautiful!

Exactly how I have been feeling. I just rented space in a small antiques shop specifically to start purging my many collections. My friends & family are shocked at the items I am letting go of, but at this stage in life I am feeling an overwhelming desire to declutter and pare down. I look at all of my stuff and wonder how I accumulated it all, now I wonder how will I get rid of it all!

Yes. I do feel overwhelmed with way too much STUFF. It’s ruining my life

You have done a lot and it looks nice,Anne. I have been getting rid of some things also. It just takes time for me to decide what i want where and what to get rid of,but it feels good when you start seeing spaces. Have a great weekend.

Less is more so they say! I was trying to adopt that one and failing miserably so instead I’m embracing the “only have what you love” concept! lol
Your bedroom looks lovely and serene.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. The black and white was very in style for a while. Your room was cute then and is beautiful now. I love the elegant simplicity. The color on your armoire and dressing table is adorable. Can’t wait to see more of your more minimal look. I’ve been doing the same thing but I still have too much stuff packed in cabinets and cupboards but I have tables now with nothing on them. Crazy.
