I have been replying back on posts through my email.
But for some reason many are coming back undelivered.
I wanted to reply through my email because I thought it would be better than to have the comments area clogged up with my reply’s making it more difficult for you to scroll down and leave a comment.
But since my emails are not going through it may be the only way to respond.
I LOVE reading each and everyone of your comments.
But I am wondering if I should only reply back to those who are asking a specific question.
What do you think?
How do you feel if I do not reply to your comments?
I am torn at what do to.
Would you prefer I reply on the posts?
Or just reply on the questions?
Your thoughts please ๐

I have had the same problem with some of my replies coming back as undelivered. I can’t respond to every comment left on my blog, or I’d never be able to get off the computer and work on projects, but I try to always respond to questions, and I usually try to respond to newcomers to my blog. I try to respond to “old-timers” that have been visiting my blog for a longer time too, but I don’t respond to every comment they leave – I wish I could, but I just can’t.
Speaking for myself – it doesn’t bother me at all if you can’t respond when I leave a comment on your blog. I understand and know you are busy and that you appreciate the comments you get!

I only comment back on posts that I feel like I have something more to share with that person based on their comment. I also comment back if they have a question. You shouldn’t feel obligated to comment back to every comment you get. I do visit that person’s blog and comment there though.

I have had a similar question. I usually respond to every comment as a reply. I thought it was part of blog etiquette but sometimes it just feels silly only saying “Thanks.” because there is really nothing more to say. My feelings aren’t hurt if a blogger doesn’t respond but I also think sometimes I should have had a response. Does that make sense. I don’t have that many comments so it isn’t a big deal to respond to everyone. I hope to have that problem some day. It won’t hurt my feelings if you have to ease back on your comments. I love visiting your blog and will continue to do so.
Nancy says
That’s pretty much what I was going to say. So…I’ll just say “ditto”. ๐ I will also add that I never feel compelled to comment on a blog that I read. I only do so if I have something to say. Does THAT make sense? lol

Hi Anne. I have problems sometime with e-mails coming back to me undeliverable. I have made sure I have the address correct but it still happens? I used to ‘reply’ through the blog comment but figured out that (for me) once I leave a comment, I don’t usually go back for awhile, so don’t know that someone has answered my comment, so figure others do the same. Right now, I don’t get that many comments that I can’t answer each one. That is a good thing or a bad thing! I feel you are very good in getting back because you must have a very busy schedule, but I just enjoy your blog so much that it is enough for me. I think when others put a small paragraph in a post, once in awhile, always makes me feel appreciated..Happy Sunday..Judy

Hi,
I am in amazement that you creative bloggers have any time at all to respond to anything!! LOL I don’t expect a response everytime I post a comment. My email blocks out some people for no reason and it’s never been fixable for some reason.
I love your blog, thanks for sharing!! ๐

I’m not having the email delivery problem but maybe someone will come to your rescue! Personally, I try to send an email to the people who leave a comment, it’s just part of my blogging routine while I have coffee in the morning. If they are nice enough to read my post, they deserve a little thanks. And if someone new comes to my blog, I pay their blog a visit, it’s a great way to find interesting blogs to follow and I sure remember what it was like to have a handful of followers! All of this takes a little time, I know, but I think blogging should be a two way street. I’m sure you’ll find what works for you!
Happy Sunday!
XO,
Jane

I comment back to questions mostly. You may be trying to comment back to no reply comment bloggers. I wish everyone would attach their email to the comments. I wish I had time to reply back to every comment, but that would be all I had time to do.

I am not having an “undeliverable” issue.
I try to respond to all the comments, but like others commented before me, I don’t have tons of comments so it is manageable. When I comment on one of the “big girl” blogs, I rarely get a response, but I understand because they have thousands of followers.
I make sure to visit the blog of every person who comments and like other commented before me, I have found some wonderful blogs that way.
I do not expect a response to this comment. I am more concerned with reading great posts from you than receiving a short comment.

i NEVER expect a reply to my comments. ever. i mean….that is A LOT of time for a person who has quite a few followers. i only reply to comments when someone has a question or says something that i feel needs my response. other than that, i make sure to visit their blog and leave a comment on their latest post.

I receive many blogs a day and only two bloggers have responded to every comment I have made. I don’t expect a response to a comment. I have asked a few questions along the way and not one of those bloggers ever answered my question, so I doubt that some bloggers read the comments, and I would have appreciated an answer to my questions which would have helped me. I feel if a reader asks a question it would be good to answer. Then if there is a comment and you want to respond that it should be up to you. I appreciate your efforts and your blog. Blessings

I always feel that one blog visit deserves another and so I always want to reply in a return comment. That’s why I feel bad if I don’t get the time. I don’t ever need or send a one word email of “Thanks.” In fact I don’t reply at all in email. It’s hard to maintain a relationship with a ton of blogs. I usually just comment and then forget all about any response back.
Anne@DesignDreams says
Hi Anne! I reply by email to anyone who comments, unless they’re no reply & then I leave a comment on their blog saying thx for the comment or whatever. I also usually visit the blog unless it’s one I visit all the time anyway. The only time I ever leave a reply on the comment on my post is if the person is no-reply and not a blogger.
I never go back to a blog to reread the comments…
Happy Sunday!

Hey, Anne. I also respond by email so as not to clog up my page, unless they have a question that others may be wanting the answer to also. Then I’ll answer on the blog.
This is probably a dumb suggestion, but I realized I had done this more than a few times. When I get an email notification that someone has commented, I hit the reply button to, well, reply. However, if they’ve never commented before, the “to” line shows an email address from wordpress, which is a No Reply. In those emails, I have to delete the wordpress email address and copy and paste the commenters email in the “to” line. Maybe that’s what is happening?
Kris says
Anne-by all means, I do not expect a reply to most comments that I leave. Only if I’ve asked a question or if the comment seems to justify further discussion. Everyone is so busy…get off the computer and enjoy life!
Cindy says
I use blogger and have email moderation activated so I can make sure a comment isn’t spam before it is published. When I publish the comments so they are visible on my post, I immediately get an email in my box with that comment in it, as well as their blog link. So, I can read the comment again, I have their contact information and can immediately click on their blog to visit them right back or reply to the email if a question was asked.
I LOVE that blogger sends this comment email with a way to contact them because…
1- I can reply right back
2- I can go visit their blog and comment because their blog link is in the email
3- if they have asked a question, I can reply right back to them via that email
I guess WordPress is different and doesn’t offer this?
Blessings,
Cindy

I meant to also add that when this email is generated through the blogger comments left on my post and I reply to this email…I’ve never had one come back as undelivered. ๐

I think it would be impossible to reply to every comment. Although it is always exciting and encouraging to receive a note from a favorite blogger. As far as posting replies on the blog itself, I think many would not be read. I don’t often go back to a post for a second look.
Thank you for asking our opinion. Whatever you decide to do, it is your blog. Do what is best for you.

Hi Anne,
You only have to respond to me if I need a question answered. I usually respond to everyone through email and only respond on the posts if it is something that maybe be helpful to someone’s question. I think I have to agree with some of the comments above do what will work for you. I think Blogs should be fun and inspirational and not a full time job so you are always so sweet to get back to people so what ever works for you is great.
Kris

I don’t ever go back and look at a post to see if someone replied to my comment so I prefer email responses.
I hate when I type up a big long reply to someone and then I look up and it says noreplyblogger.
Good question…
Sally says
I usually don’t go back to posts to see if a blogger has answered to my comment. I prefer the e-mail responses, and try to do the same with my blog. I’m glad to hear people say that they don’t respond to comments unless there is additional information to pass along. It does seem silly to comment JUST to say “thanks for stopping by” – even though it’s SO appreciated. It’s hard to know where to draw the line sometimes.
Regarding “undelivered” e-mails… sounds like you are responding to no-reply bloggers. That means they don’t have their e-mail attached to their blog. I respond to those comments (if need be) on my blog, though I wonder if people ever really come back and read them (since I stated above that I don’t!), or sometimes I click through to their blog to find their contact information. If that is not available, I leave a comment on their blog. If they’re not a blogger, I may tweet them. There are so many ways to connect these days!
Magali@TheLittleWhiteHouse says
If possible I reply by email to evey comment and for some addresses I had the same problem as you, my answer would come back to me as undelivered… I re-emailed some of those persons and they told me they actually got my answer…. I don’t know what to think.
Lorraine@MissFlibbertigibbet says
I have never had so many comments that I couldn’t reply so I may change when (if ever) I do. I do try and reply to anyone who takes the time to comment….I just can’t ignore that. I do try and visit the bloggers who do make a comment. And I have even found some blogs I really like and then want to follow! If I actually have a question for someone, I usually try and find their contact email and ask that way. Since changing to WP I have had a no-reply problem myself which has been hard to fix. So, I don’t feel offended if someone doesn’t reply back to me….I usually assume they weren’t able to. I think you need to do what feels right to you, not necessarily what everyone else seems to do.

I’m starting to have that problem with the comments as well. They are coming back undeliverable. It’s a problem that comes and goes.

Hi Anne…I never understood how responding to a comment on the post works…I never go back to a post after I comment on it. I subscribed once to follow up comments on a post but then I was swamped with other’s comments for ever so I never did it again…maybe I just don’t get it. I like getting a response through email, but that’s just my opinion!
