Today I added a crystal chandelier to our kitchen.
I have been wanting to change out the chandeliers in our kitchen for awhile now,but I could not find chandeliers that I thought would work until recently.
I love vintage chandeliers, but often they need to be re-wired and I don’t know how to do that.
Taking it in to have someone else re-wire it would be an added cost.
This was quite a project because little did I know until I took this out of the box that this needed to be fully assemble.
I guess I missed that description on the outside of the box.
Every single arm of this light had to be wired and attached.
As I was putting this together I decided to add the crystals at the very end because all that added weight would make it difficult for me to hang.
Yes I did this all by myself and I am quite proud.
Normally I ask my husband, but today I decided to do this myself.
It took me five hours to put it together and hang,I was being very careful doing this the first time all by myself.
I am not going to go into detail on how to hang a chandelier.
I am very comfortable doing this myself because my husband and I have done this ourselves over the years.
But I am not a professional so I don’t feel comfortable explaining how to do this.
You could probably do a search on the internet on how to if you felt comfortable doing it, if not then please call a professional.
I love how nice and bright it is in our kitchen, and I am not done yet.
I am still going to hang a matching chandelier over our kitchen island and a smaller chandelier over the sink.
This is what it looks like all lit up.
Here is what it looked like with my other light.
And this is what it looks like now with the chandelier over our farmhouse table.
I also wanted to mention that to pay for these chandeliers I sold a few things to my friend who owns a shop in town.
Having a garage sale, yard sale or selling things on craigslist is a great way to make extra money and also get rid of things you no longer want.
This chandelier was found at Menards for 199.00
Not bad for a beautiful crystal chandelier, but the catch is that you must assemble it yourself.

The midwest meet up was yesterday.
It was fun meeting fellow bloggers and making new friends.
I took some photos with my smart phone and I have no idea of how to download them to my blog.
I can’t believe I forgot to take photos of everyone with my camera!

Oh Anne! It is just beautiful!!!!! Can’t believe the Menards carries such an awesome “shabby chic” chandy! I just love it in your gorgeous kitchen. And the fact that you hung it all by yourself makes it even more special! lol

Thanks Laurie, yes they do.Actually they have a another huge chandelier, but I think it is a little too big for my dining room and pocket book.

That chandelier is just the perfect light fixture for your kitchen! I love it. Sounded like a huge pain to have to put it together though. You’ve got more patience than me.
Anne says
Thank you Kelly! Yes it was a huge pain and I have one more to hang!

Anne it was great seeing you again at The Midwest Meet-Up yesterday. The chandelier looks beautiful. Kudos to you for hanging it yourself! Between Jen Rizzo painting a bedroom and you hanging a chandelier I feel like such a slouch! Where do you gals get all your energy?

Oh my…it is absolutely beautiful! It feels good to do things yourself sometimes doesn’t it? There are times I know the hubby hates me asking him for help, so those times I just pull up my big girl panties and just do it! I can’t wait until you do the other two…they’ll be stunning!!!
Anne says
Thank you Melanie!Yes I agree it feels great doing it myself.
Rondell says
I agree I’d rather have new when it comes to lighting. It looks beautiful above your table!
Anne says
Thank you Rondell!

Oh it is so pretty!! Good for you doing it all by yoursef! I loved Menads when I lived in Illinois. It had great stuff! Booo, that it is snowing! What is up with that?

I have been watching and waiting to see how the chandelier story turned out. So glad you were able to find one, assemble it, and hang it. I’ve replaced almost all my light fixtures so I imagine it’s about the same to hang the chandelier: Sore shoulders and a pain in the neck 🙂 I’ve got one more to do, the laundry room. I’ll be putting a smaller chandelier in there, because cute! Thanks for the update and I can’t wait to see how your other one turns out.

The chandelier looks wonderful. See, you probably CAN rewire a chandelier now that you have built one! It’s snowing here too. Sucks. I always have to ask my husband how to download my pictures from the phone. That sucks too.

Perfect choice for over the table, and your idea for hanging a matching one over the island and a smaller one above the sink will totally complete the space. Can’t wait to see it all come together – you have such vision for your home and it all looks so wonderful and lovely.
Cynthia says
Anne good for you do this all by yourself. You show them girl, LOL. I love this addition so pretty and tons of bling. I never would have the courage to work with electrical even though I have seen my hubby do it 1 million times. Playing catch up with email.

Thank you Cynthia! It was very easy to hang but not put together.

Thank you Martina!

I really like it when I can do things myself. How exciting that you put it all together. Now you know how they are made! And…you can probably buy old ones, fix them up and sell them now that you know how they go together. I am definitely going to look at Menards! I like their table that Laurie from Heaven’s Walk did but I don’t have room in my house right now! May have to sell some things! By the way, I like the paint color of your walls. They are very pretty. Not too white. Almost look like a yellow tone but computer screen is deceiving. Can you tell me the color and brand? Thank you and thank you for the chandelier inspiration!
Anne says
Thank you Karen. The paint color was custom here is the formula.I always use the cheapest brand of paint which for me is glidden.Budget is important and it has held up just as good as any other expensive brand I have purchased over the years.
