I had quite a big response I from my last post on living with less ( If you missed it you can read all about it HERE), I thought I would share some tips on organizing and decluttering. This can be a big job to tackle, but with a few simple tips and tricks I can share how you can organize and declutter without getting stressed out. If you are about to attempt to tackle organizing or decluttering first, take a deep breath. It's going to be okay I promise. Then work on one section at a time. So how do you start? Let me share what I do, and how I sort things out. I start with a section and I make four piles. Pile #1 This will be your keep pile. And your keep pile should consist of anything that you truly love. Things that you are going to use or display. Don't get ... View Post
Living With Less
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately, and the thought of living with less have been on my mind. I am not sure if it's because in three years my husband and I will be empty nesters. It's hard to imagine how life will be with one less person in my home. Or, if it's because I am so busy with my businesses that I don't have the time I once did to take care of it all. But either way I am looking around and visualizing my home with less clutter than I have. I have always filled my home with things that I love, and pieces that are not only decorative but also serve a purpose. That's helped, but still, I see pieces of furniture that really are not serving any purposes for me any longer. Like my dining room cabinet. We bought this piece in the 1990's and it looked great in our ... View Post
What Is Chippy Patina?
Before I get to part 2 of how to create chippy patina with paint, I first wanted to talk with you about chippy patina. -What is chippy patina? Chippy patina is the effect and process in which paint ages on a piece of furniture. Usually due to the elements, heat, moisture, sun and other elements such as smoke and good old dirt! Why am telling you this? Because I have taught many paint workshops and in some of those work shops I always have a few students that are trying to create perfection when they are trying to make a piece look old and vintage. Let's look at an example of chippy patina. This is one of my favorite pieces in my house. It's a pink chippy table with lots of discoloration, chippy patina and good old dirt! As you look closely at this piece you will notice that it ... View Post
A Field Trip All American Reclaim
Well it's that time of the year, time to start thinking about gardening and my screened in porch. I have lots of changes and fun things planned for our screened in porch. More on that soon. But as I was researching something for my porch on Craigslist, and I came across this company All American Reclaim. So today we are taking a field trip, are you ready? Get a cup of coffee, or a good beverage, and settle in on a comfortable chair. I have lots of photos to share. When I stumbled onto this shop it looked interesting so I knew I needed to pay a visit. Their website shared photos of vintage salvage .... and I couldn't wait to check it out! I was thrilled to see such a cool place existed so close to my house! As I walked in this is what I saw. Can you tell how happy I was to ... View Post
Chippy Blue
One of my new paint colors is Chippy Blue. I thought you would like to see this beautiful color on a piece of furniture. Many years ago I bought this clock from Country Sampler magazine. I am not sure if that magazine is still around, but many years ago I found this in there retailer section. I remember when I first bought this clock. It drove my husband nuts, because it goes off at the top of every hour. But over the years we don't even notice it chiming, even though it still does. I guess we have grown used to the sound. This clock is pine wood that has a honey stain underneath all the coats of paint that I have applied over the years. Let's see, it's has black paint, white paint, more white paint and stain. I thought my chippy blue would look perfect on this old clock. I ... View Post
Posh Pink
One of the new colors in my signature paint line is Posh Pink. I couldn't wait to shabby up my old table with posh pink. I have shared before how much I love finding pieces with original chippy paint. But sometimes even when I am lucky enough to find a special piece the color is all wrong. Like this piece. I love the patina on this old chippy tote, but not the color. So I added a little Heirloom Traditions paint and transformed it. See that table below? Several years ago I came across this old chippy farmhouse table. I have moved it to several rooms in my home. And last year I added it to my front porch. Being outside it got a little too weathered and turned a dirty, dingy, grey. I love the patina but the dirty color had to go. Instead of painting it white I decided to ... View Post
