Today I wanted to share this easy to make diy chalkboad sign. Last year when I held my first at home sale, I made a few signs. I wasn't happy with the way they turned out, but being my first sale I didn't allow myself more time to make nicer signs. You can read about my first sale HERE. And HERE. I recently started thinking about how I was going to make signs. Thinking I would have to run to an improvement store to pick out wood, and have them cut each piece to size. Yeah, I don't have an electric saw yet. But, while browsing through the craft store I saw a few small chalkboards and I had a light bulb moment. When I spotted these faux chalkboards they were laying horizontal. But I held them up vertically and noticed that they would make the perfect size for signs. I am sure ... View Post
Elmer’s Glue Crackle Finish
I have been hearing lots of buzz about using Elmer's glue crackle finish for a piece of furniture. It sounded pretty easy to do, so I asked my daughter if she still had Elmer's glue in her stash of craft supplies. Sure enough she did! I have had this old mirror for several years. And you all know how much I love a good crackled chippy patina. So I thought it was about time I try this technique. This is just plain old Elmer's glue, not a special crackle finish. It's using Elmer's glue and the technique that make this special. I love the patina on the glass, but the paint on the frame was sort of blah. So I took out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Blushing and painted one coat on the mirror frame. I'm sort of impatient, so I took out my hairdryer to speed the drying ... View Post
White Lace Cottage Blog Tour
Welcome to the new and improved White Lace Cottage! Thrilled to see this come together. As much as I liked the way the blog looked before, I wanted a cleaner look. I also wanted my site to be easier to navigate. Lesley from Chaotically Creative/Launch Girls designed my new blog header and set up my new blog theme. She was wonderful to work with and listened to what I wanted to do. We both talked and set up a plan on how we wanted to create my new look. I needed to start branding myself and the way my blog looked before was no longer working. It was time to bring this site up a notch. Besides my blog changing I have some other changes going on that I cannot wait to share! As I said I was looking for a cleaner look on my site, and easier to navigate. Yes I still have ads and ... DIY Earring Holder Frame
Several years ago I found this very cool dresser mirror. When I first spotted it I thought that it was a vintage mirror, but it's actually a reproduction. It was displayed in my studio and one day it came crashing down and the center mirror broke. Please don't remind me about bad luck and mirrors. I have broken many over the years, it could account for some of the bad luck I have had in my life. Or maybe it was just bad luck that the mirror broke. Anyway, I could not bare to throw this mirror out. Even though it was broken I knew eventually I would think of an idea to repurpose it. So, while laying in bed, yes my best ideas come to me when I am just about to fall asleep. I thought of a DIY project repurposing this into a earring holder. So the next day I pulled out my Heirloom ... View Post
Creating A Faux Plaster Mirror
Creating a faux plaster mirror is very simple to do. I found this ugly mirror a year or so ago while out thrift shipping. The paint color is pretty ugly but look at those roses. Oh, and that that St. Patrick's day sticker adds the perfect touch don't you think? Anyway, you know why I fell for this mirror....right? It was the pretty roses and ribbon design on this piece of course! The drawback is that it's plastic and not wood or plaster. But I knew I could paint it and make this look more shabby and vintage. First I cleaned the mirror off and removed the hideous sticker! Then I painted two coats of French Vanilla from Heirloom Traditions paint. This paint is amazing to work with! I love how easy it is to work with, and smooth it goes on. It dries fast too! Let's take a ... View Post
Creating A Faux Verdigris Mirror
A sweet friend of mine gifted me this lovely mirror. When she gave it to me, she mentioned that she had wanted one a little prettier but was unable to find one. And she knew I could do something fun with it, and she was right! Did you know that I am a hair stylist by trade? I have not worked in a salon in years, but still cut and color hair for a few of my friends and family. My friend knew I needed one, because my last one broke a year or so ago and I kept forgetting to purchase one. Instead of just painting this I thought I would have fun creating a faux verdigris mirror. Heirloom Traditions paint can be used on pretty much every surface, so I knew it would adhere to this plastic mirror. But how was I going to get a metal look? Let me show you how I achieved this look. I ... View Post
