I said this before and I will say it again, you can transform just about anything with a little paint. Don't pass up a piece because of how it looks, stand back and think about how you can improve it with just a little paint. I found a pair of very ugly cherub statue planters. I love the sweet cherubs the shells and the design, but the added copper gold paint finish had to go. Yes this has many chips also, but I don't care,I love pieces that are imperfect. I took these home and cleaned them up a bit and started to paint. Using what I had already at home I used my homemade plaster paint in a pure white color. See how simple is this! Just a coat of paint,I could antique this but sometimes I love the simplicity too. Not everything needs to be antiqued. Yes I have a pair. I am ... View Post
Milk Paint And Plaster Paint Technique
Milk Paint And Plaster Paint Technqiue Milk paint and plaster paint technique happened by accident. A similare accident happened when I discovered that you can distress furniture using vinegar. You can read about that HERE. I was searching for a mantel for quite some time now. Hoping that I'd score a beautiful vintage mantel with perfect chippy patina. I found a few. But they were either out of my price range or not the right size. This was my price range and it was the right size. The only thing that was totally off was that this was new and not vintage. I knew that I could totally fix that with a little paint. I decided to use milk paint because I knew that I'd get a great chippy patina using it. I used Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint in ironstone. I added two coats ... View Post
How To Paint On Metal Using Chalk Paint
What is it with me and vintage scales? My daughter had an early dismissal from school today so on the way to the library I stopped by to see a good friend who also owns a beautiful resale shop. And as I walked into the shop I saw this old scale. I've been searching for one of these old scales for a long time! I know, it's not a very pretty color and my studio is beyond messy, but I wanted to share a before photo. At first I was thinking of painting it white which would look pretty, because you know how much I adore white. But my heart was telling me that this scale needed a pretty shade of pink. Before I started to paint this old scale, I first needed to clean the grime off of it, including the glass. Even though I wasn't planning on painting the glass, I wanted it to look ... View Post
Making My Own Bling
On a recent thrift shop trip I found this book, rejuvenated jewels. I have been enjoying wearing the beautiful vintage pieces my friend Jeannie from The Crown Jewels Of Art designs. So when I saw this book I knew I would have fun creating some pieces of my own. I have been saving vintage pieces of jewelry for sometime now. I look for bags full of broken pieces when I am out treasure hunting. I was also lucky to find this vintage jewelry box on a recent trip. It will be one of many I plan to store my vintage jewelry finds in. Here is the piece I just designed, not bad for my first time. The bottom piece is not old but the floral piece is. And you know how I love my bling. I took apart another necklace that had those gold beads with the rhinestones. It is fun just looking ... View Post
A Pink Prom Dress
Last Friday I was planning on catching up to things around my house, you know like cleaning, laundry, and shipping out orders from the shop. And I was hoping on getting ahead on blog posts, and listing a few new items in my SHOP. But Kris from Junk Chic Cottage called and asked me if I was going to a sale. A sale......? I told her I did not know about this sale, but I was heading on out. Like I really had the time to do this with my busy schedule. Well I shipped the packages out and off I was to the sale. The sale was held at Carol from Redeemed Vintage home. Let me just say her home is absolutely gorgeous. No photos to share,I was at a sale and I knew there was no time for photos. I may have to contact her sometime to see if I can photograph her home and do a feature on my ... View Post
A Screened Porch And A Chippy Stool
Very soon I will have a new room to decorate, our screened in porch. I have to tell you it's been torture looking out at our porch all winter long, knowing we cannot enjoy it until the weather is better. The workers are here today adding our side patio. And it still needs some touch ups. I have some plans for decorating I cannot wait to share. I found a table set last fall and I am still on a hunt for a few more things. I don't want this room crowded with furniture. I found this sweet chippy pint stool that I thought would work perfectly on the porch. I am always drawn to pieces that have original paint, especially when it is filled with imperfections, rust and chippy paint. The color is perfect for me don't you think? The seat has lots of wear and you can see some of the seat ... View Post
