Decorating With Architectural Salvage I've always had a soft spot for tattered and chippy pieces. I know that each one tells a story of where they have been. I live in a newer home but I still like to incorporate architectural salvage in my decor. If you've ever come across an old door, a chippy post or a piece of wood and you're like me you'll want to scoop that piece up and add it into your decor. Adding architectural salvage pieces really give a room a unique look. Especially when you love vintage style as much as I do. Let's talk about what you can do with those unique architectural salvage pieces when you find them and how to incorporate them into your home. Painting Kitchen Cabinets How To Step By Step
How To Paint Kitchen Cabinets Step By Step It's hard to believe that it's been five years since I first painted my kitchen cabinets. I always wanted white cabinets but I was terrified to paint them. What if I messed up? What if I hated the way that they looked? And what would my husband think? Fortunately they turned out great, I didn't mess up and my husband loves them. Because I wanted to cheat a little I decided to paint them using chalk paint. I recently wrote this article (click on the link to read) why I would never use chalk paint on kitchen cabinets again. I recently repainted my cabinets with a primer and paint in one. I'm going to share a step by step on how to paint kitchen cabinets. On a side note. I'm making lots of changes in my kitchen as I update things I will share more ... View Post

Dealing With A Birth Defect
This is one of the hardest posts I've ever had to write. I've written this post so many times and with each time that I've wrote it I deleted it. Just typing the words harelip or cleft pallet has my heart racing. So you're probably wondering what in the world I'm talking about. Especially if you've been following me for sometime. Well today I'm sharing a secret that I've been hiding. It's something that even though I'm a 50 years old I still have a hard time dealing with. Here we go. I was born with what I was told was a harelip. I guess they call it a harelip because it resembles a rabbits mouth. Pointed at the top. I really hate that word so much! I've had two surgeries. One surgery was when I was an infant. The other was when I was five years old or so. I can't remember. The second ... View Post
Creating A Layered Distressed Aged Patina
Creating A Layered Distressed Aged Patina Most of my ideas for creating a layered distressed aged patina have all been by accident. I've shared before that I love experimenting with paint. Sometimes I feel like a mad scientist or a creative cook when it comes to painting techniques. I'll take a little of this, mix it with that and see what I come up with. One of the pieces in my home that's been transformed several times is my fireplace mantel. A few years ago I decided to play around with milk and chalk paint. I didn't mix these together, instead I layered them creating a layered distressed aged patina. Click on this link to read Milk Paint Meets Chalk Paint. I love the aged look I created on my mantel in the photo above. But I felt it was time for a change. I ... View Post

I'm always experimenting with paint and trying to create new ways to add these fun finishes. Many months ago I painted a cabinet in my office that was once my dining room. It's a metal cabinet that I gave new life by adding appliques and I also added this technique to that metal cabinet. This is the same technique that I'm going to share with you today. If you are curious this is the cabinet that I am referring too. It's an old metal cabinet that was spray painted back. I painted a base coat of flat paint then created a weathered and distressed look. You can read more about this click on this link---> Metal Pantry Cabinet. This technique ... View Post
