Creating Brushed Metal Patina Several years ago, I decided to give our laundry room a little update. One of the issues I had with our laundry room that also serves as our mud room, is that it lacked storage. Especially for our coats and shoes. I found this set of lockers for 20.00 at a resale shop a few towns over from our home. They were pretty gross, so I gave them a coat of paint. At the time I went with a blue color that worked into my theme at that time. (This post contains affiliate links, please read disclosure policy) A few months ago I went a little crazy and sold most of my stuff from my personal collection. And when I say stuff, I mean that I was literally taking things off of my walls and out of my rooms, and selling them. Yeah, I totally did that. And ... View Post
Simple Modern Art Project
Modern Art Project Have you seen those gold polka dots? They seem to be popping up everywhere, no pun intended. I've been seeing these for several months, maybe a year in fact and I've become smitten with them. This modern art is a little out of my style, but nonetheless, I've been drawn to anything that has those gold polka dots. Before I go on, let me share where I was inspired by this project. My family and I were on a little road trip to Saugatuck Michigan. And while browsing in a store I came across a sweet little sign that said "Work Hard, Stay Humble, Be Kind". I don't know why that little sign inspired me but it totally did! It wasn't gold, and didn't have polka dots. Decoupage A Kitchen Stool
Decoupage A Kitchen Stool Well after three years of the same old look on my kitchen stools, I decided to make a change to the look of my kitchen stools and decoupage them. Before I decided that I wanted to decoupage them I had a few ideas in mind. One idea was to add glitter to the tops of the stools, sort of like the old 1950's dinner look. You know me and my bling. I've seen that done by mixing decoupage glue and glitter and the results are fabulous! But as I was getting ready to do that I had a light bulb moment. I seriously did, and this is how my brain works. And the thought process....what if I took tissue paper and decoupage it to the stool. Bingo, I think we have a winner! Well, guess what, that's what I'm going to share today. How to decoupage a leather stool. (This post ... View Post
Painting Ideas Adding Patina And Texture
Painting Ideas I love coming up with new painting ideas to add patina and texture to my furniture. Well, actually it's not always furniture that I'll add texture and patina. I guess you just never know what I'll do once I get my hands on a piece. I think I've shared some of my crazy ideas, like the day I decided to break some of my pretty vintage dishes and add them to my counters as a mosaic. Now that was a crazy idea. So glad that was before digital cameras, I have no photos to share. But you didn't come here to read about that, so let's get started on some of my favorite painting ideas from a few of my projects. Resale Shop Fashion For Women Over 40
Resale Shop Fashion If you've been reading this blog long enough than you know how much I love shopping at a resale shop. I not only to purchase good finds for my house, but I also purchase 98% of my clothes at a resale shop. I'm often asked where I find my clothes, and jewelry. And this is no joke, I've actually had people follow me around a store, approach me to ask where I bought a jacket, or top, or whatever. The best part is that I always tell them, I bought it at a resale shop. That's when there jaw drops and they have a look of disappointment, because shopping at thrift shop is like getting a one of a kind piece. Since it's used and probably a few years old, the chances of finding that exact piece is pretty slim. (This post contains affiliate links, please read disclosure ... View Post
Painted Furniture What You Need To Know
Painted Furniture What You Need To Know Painted furniture is really hot right now and has been for over the past 4 years. I think the reason people like it so much is because you can find a crappy piece of furniture at a garage sale, thrift shop or even on the curb, add a few coats of paint, and you have a beautiful new piece of furniture. (This post contains affiliate links, please read disclosure policy) (Cabinet painted with Posh Pink, sealed with Muddy Pond Wax) And painted furniture isn't limited to what you find, but also pieces in your home including cabinets and upholstered furniture. But how do you know what pieces to paint? What's the prep, what kind of paint should be used? And do you need to finish it? Let's go through each of those questions so I can ... View Post
