Excited to share some new lovely shabby treasures that I just listed in the shop. I know I have shared this before, but I will share it again. When I hunt for treasures, I only buy pieces that speak to me. Treasures that I would use in my own home like this lovely vintage sheet. Yes, that is a vintage sheet, but it works perfectly as a tablecloth don't you think? Love the soft blue and turquoise colors on this one. And it really matches my newly painted table too! Many times I come across pieces that are pretty, but if I can't imagine adding them into my home then I won't purchase them. The great part about selling vintage items is if they don't sell, I can enjoy them in my own home. So you can understand why it's so important to only sell pieces that really speak to me and ... Painting Cowgirl Boots
I have been dying to try painting a pair of cowgirl boots. If you follow me on Pinterest, then you know how much I adore cowgirl boots. Especially fashion cowgirl boots that have beautiful colors. I have had this pair of boots for a few years now, and I felt like they needed a little update. I pulled out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Mocha and started painting the bottom portion of my boots. Mocha is a pretty milk chocolate brown. I can't wait to try this color with a little French Vanilla mixed in. That actually sounds like a delicious dessert! Next, I mixed half French Vanilla and Half Synergy also from Heirloom Traditions and painted the top portion of my cowgirl boots. This is the same color combination I just shared with you, in my recent ... View Post
DIY Repurposed Lamp Coat Stand
While out treasure hunting with a friend a year ago I came across this old standing lamp. The thought of turning it into a tall candelabra for our screened in porch came to mind. I was thinking of painting it, then adding faux flicker candles. But after a year later, it was still sitting in my storage. I am starting to get things ready for my sale, so I had another idea, what if I repurposed this lamp into a coat stand. Yes, that's it! Next I started to gather my supplies. The first part of this transformation was cutting the cord off , then cleaning this well too! Then I took out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Buff Rose and started painting this lamp. And when I say painting this lamp, I mean everything. After the paint was dried on this lamp, I decided to cover the ... View Post
Shabby Treasures
It's been awhile since I have shared the newest Shabby Treasures from the shop of White Lace Cottage. It's been so cold here the past couple of months I wasn't out treasure hunting much. And when I did venture out, there was not much to offer. I am pretty picky about the selections I make for the shop. I only purchase pieces that I like and would enjoy in my own home. So I am pretty excited to share new offerings for the shop! I love pink and roses, and when it's a Rachel Ashwell piece or something that looks like it, well it comes home with me! This does not have tags on it, so I am not sure if it's a Rachel Ashwell duvet cover or not. I asked for a little help on this over on Instagram, do you follow me there? Because I share lots of pretty inspiration everyday! Anyway.... I ... View Post
Creating Patina With Paint
I have been playing around with paints more than usual lately. One reason is that I was recently introduced to Heirloom Traditions paint. I have used several chalk type paints before, but this is by far my favorite. And one of the reasons I am now selling it. Not only is it a wonderful paint but an amazing company too! I will never endorse or support a product that I would not use or believe in. And when the company is as good as Heirloom Traditions it's a win-win! I decided to do an experiment to see if I could get a more authentic patina with paint and dark wax. Creating patina with paint is very easy to do, let me show you how. I had this old stool, I think it may be a milking stool. It was already painted white. I took out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Nickle. I applied ... View Post
Great Patina And Exciting News!
Sometimes I find pieces that have pretty details, but the color is all wrong. If it has great patina I usually pick it up and take it home. Like this pair of candlesticks. The design and patina is perfect, but not the color. I decided to paint these using Buff Rose by Heirloom Traditions. Since this already had great patina all that was needed is a fresh coat of paint, and a little dark wax. After I applied one coat of paint, and it was fully dried I applied Muddy Pond soft wax from Heirloom Traditions. Muddy Pond really highlighted those imperfections. To apply my wax I used an old t-shirt rag, and applied a small amount by rubbing it onto my candlesticks. And here is what they look like now. See all of that crusty chippy patina. These look so much prettier painted with ... View Post
