Last week while I was pinning over on pinterest, I found a perfectly shabby chippy door. This old chippy door was being used as pantry door. Well, you know me and chippy paint. At that second , I had a light bulb moment. (Okay so as much as I would like to share my inspiration photo I can't. Did you know that you can be sued using someone's photo on your site without the original photographer's permission, even if it's from pinterest.) So......where do I begin. Here is how I stared my DIY chippy patina project. This was quite a process. As always I was experimenting and trying to figure out how to make my newer door get that chippy patina that I love, and look authentically old. My inspiration was my mantle that I created last year. You can view that HERE. Let's take a ... View Post

Several months ago I was contacted by Stampington to write an article for their magazine Artful Blogging. I was thrilled to have been ... View Post
Shabby Repurposed Art
I found this chippy piece of wood and I knew I could make a shabby piece of art with it. The color and patina is perfection to me. I know most people think I am crazy for finding the beauty in scrap pieces of chippy wood. But there is something about imperfection that I love! I have lots of scrap fabrics in my studio. As I am shopping at a thrift shop I am always finding new pieces to add to my collection. Bed sheets are my favorite because you can do so many projects with just a little fabric. Here is a list of supplies needed for this project. Scraps of fabric(preferably a cotton sheet) Scrap piece of wood, with great patina Glue gun Twine Scissors First take a scrap piece of fabric, cut a piece about 1-2 inches wide. The length is up to you. It can always be cut ... View Post

Distressing Using Dark Wax
Sometimes you find a piece that has amazing patina. You know what I mean.....perfectly chippy. I have gotten really close at duplicating this when I painted my mantle last year. But typically this chippy patina cannot be duplicated. It happens naturally has the paint ages. So when I saw this chippy piece it spoke to me, yes because of the patina. But not necessarily the color. I like the peach color, but not the green color. And after adding this to my shop last winter, I noticed the color was not speaking to anyone else either. So, I had to decide what to do. How can I change this piece without changing the patina? Well, I decided to paint it. I pulled out my Blushing color by Heirloom Traditions. It's now one of my favorite colors. I know big surprise right.... pink ... View Post
