The last couple of days have been a whirlwind! When a girlfriend asks you if you want to go out junking with her,and how would you like to come with you don't say no. I have heard about the spring clean up in Winnetka but have never ventured out. After teaching a painting workshop at Lucky Junk, one of the sweet attendees told Janet and I about the curbside spring clean up. She had shared that she found a beautiful Ethan Allen table at the curbside. Yes they were throwing it out! Being a newbie to this,I have much to learn. Like knowing about this on the first day and not the third day. Yes most of it was picked over but not all of it. As you can see our vehicles were packed and loaded with treasures. This is Janet's car. This is my car. Most of the treasures went to ... View Post
Vintage Area Rug
A few weeks ago I was out treasure hunting and I came across a vintage area rug. When I first saw the rug it was all roll up tightly so I could only see the colors from underneath. I stood there in the store looking at the vintage area rug , thinking should I get it,the price was right. But after looking at it and thinking about it I walked away without buying it. That following week I went to the same store and that rug was still there, bound together so I could only see the underneath color. Again I walked away. Then yesterday I went back to that same shop and it was still there, but this time I asked the lady at the shop to help me open it up to take a closer look. As soon as she opened it up I said.....Sold! I bet you are a bit surprised at the color, yes it has a bit of pink ... View Post
Vintage Farmhouse Tables
You all know my obsession with vintage scales and I am sure you also know how much I love finding vintage farmhouse tables. I spotted this one while I was out treasure hunting but it was really nothing special. They attached a note to the price tag that said this was made using reclaimed pieces of wood from an old house. It really was a hodgepodge of different scrap pieces of wood that really did not go together at all. But still I was attracted to this old table. I decided to bring it home and paint it using Vintage Market and Designs paint Blue Heron. I am normally not a big blue fan but this is the prettiest shabbiest blue color. Love all the details showing through. And I am sure I could make this work in my house. But it will not be staying here. I know,I know your ... View Post
Vintage French Bistro Set
Yesterday while treasure hunting I was thrilled to come across this lovely vintage French bistro set. The color is perfect and has a little chippy paint, although I don't think this is the original paint. Our yard is still a mess from the construction, well mostly our garden. I have a crew coming next week to help get our garden back into shape. We have lots of rocks here, you dig into the soil you hit a rock not fun when you are doing the edging or planting. Because this will be a big job , my husband and I decided to hire a gardening crew to get things started. As much as I would like to show you my screened in porch it's not happening until we get our yard cleaned up,it's not a pretty site. But I may still take photos of how it looks now once it looks pretty. I think you will ... View Post
Distressed Beadboard Wallpaper
Yes this is my ongoing saga.....the kitchen island, but this time I wanted a distressed beadboard wallpaper look. I really want to make this work for awhile after putting so much time into it. Since this is wallpaper I can't sand it to distress it but decided to use a little dark wax instead. The poly I added really turned this yellow,so first before waxing I decided to add two more coats of Vintage Market and Designs paint color Porcelain. This is a very pale pink, but interestingly depending on the piece you paint determines how deep the color is. Do you remember this painting? I used the same color as I am on my island but you can see the frame has a little more of a pink too it than my island does. It's a very pale pink that really does not scream pink at all even with the ... View Post
A New Spot For My French Bottle Rack
After adding my vintage pink scale to my kitchen island I decided that I needed to find a new spot for my French bottle rack. As much as I was enjoying my corner cabinet in my kitchen I decided to move it back into the dining room and put my chippy door and pink table back into this room. I really love this combination of the chippy door,my chippy pink table and the French bottle rack. They all seem to work perfectly together. I also added these dried flowers to my French bottle rack. I dry my roses in water and as they are about to wilt I pull them out and hang them upside down. This pink color looks pretty next to the black color of the French bottle rack. I am keeping that old chippy green ladder in here it's just the right piece for this spot. All the colors work great with ... View Post
